Breedon maintains growth amid subdued construction demand

Breedon Group has reported a resilient performance for the year to date despite continued pressure in the UK, Ireland, and the United States construction markets.

Revenue for the ten months to 31 October 2025 rose 9 per cent on the same period in 2024, supported by acquisitions, while revenue for the four months to October increased 12 per cent. On a like-for-like basis, however, revenue declined 3 per cent across both periods, reflecting softer demand in key sectors.

The company noted that residential construction in Great Britain and the US has remained subdued throughout 2025, and delays to major infrastructure projects in Great Britain and Ireland have added further pressure. Enquiries in Great Britain remained strong but have not yet converted into confirmed orders.

In Ireland, several large-scale infrastructure schemes were postponed, although the National Development Plan published earlier this year offers encouragement for medium-term growth. In the US, Breedon recovered some work affected by poor weather, but wider growth expectations have eased.

Major infrastructure projects continue to support demand, including the I-70 project in the United States, while affordability constraints limit expansion in the new-build residential sector.

Despite these headwinds, Breedon expects to deliver another year of profitable growth, with underlying EBITDA projected between £275 million and £280 million, alongside lower covenant leverage at year-end.

Chief Executive Rob Wood highlighted that operational and commercial discipline, alongside strategic execution, has helped maintain profitability in a challenging market. He added that while uncertainty remains around the timing of a full market recovery, the group remains positioned to benefit when construction activity improves.
