Work is underway on the new Library, IT and Education Building at Atlantic Technological University’s Letterkenny campus, marking a key milestone in phase two of the Higher Education Public Private Partnership Programme. BAM, as main contractor, is leading delivery of the 5,100m² facility, which will include a library, learning resource spaces, general and specialised teaching areas, ICT laboratories, administration and ancillary facilities.

The project, formally launched by Minister for Further and Higher Education James Lawless, is set to increase ATU Letterkenny’s capacity by approximately 600 students. This expansion aims to support the university’s continued growth while reinforcing its regional impact in Donegal and the wider Northwest.

BAM emphasised its commitment to sustainable, high-quality infrastructure that enables innovation and learning. Director of Building Darren Devane highlighted the development as a “landmark” for education and regional development, reflecting the company’s focus on delivering projects that inspire creativity, collaboration and research.

ATU President Dr Orla Flynn described the building as a vibrant hub for teaching and learning, signalling strong government commitment to enhancing educational opportunities outside major urban centres. The project aligns with Project Ireland 2040 objectives, reinforcing investment in regional growth and the role of education as a driver of Ireland’s long-term economic development.

The new facility is expected to serve as a catalyst for innovation and student engagement, combining modern design with practical functionality to support a growing student population. Its completion will strengthen ATU Letterkenny’s position as a leading regional education provider and enhance the Northwest’s infrastructure for higher education.
