Silver Hill Duck breaks ground on new processing facility in Co Monaghan in major regional construction project

Co. Monaghan-based premium duck producer Silver Hill Duck has officially marked the commencement of construction of a new processing facility at its Emyvale headquarters, in a development with direct implications for industrial construction and regional employment in rural Ireland. The project represents a significant industrial build in the Irish midlands, with completion targeted for summer 2027.

Agriland reported that the groundbreaking milestone was marked at a special event attended by Minister of State at the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment Niamh Smyth, alongside representatives from Enterprise Ireland and Monaghan County Council.

The new facility, supported through Enterprise Ireland's Capital Investment Scheme, will increase Silver Hill Duck's processing capacity from 80,000 to 120,000 ducks per week across a purpose-built 5,680 square metre build. The development will also incorporate a new pet food processing plant, while the existing facility will be modernised as part of the wider scheme.

The project will create over 50 new permanent roles at the Emyvale site, adding to a current workforce of approximately 220, alongside construction employment during the build phase. Silver Hill Duck, which is owned by Northern Ireland agri-food business Fane Valley Group, said the investment also reaffirms its long-term commitment to regional development and employment in Co. Monaghan.

Minister Smyth said: "Silver Hill Duck is one of Ireland's great agri-food success stories and one of Monaghan's great success stories. The commencement of this new state-of-the-art processing facility is a clear statement of ambition and a vote of confidence in rural Ireland. This investment in modern technology, sustainability and innovation will create and sustain jobs, enhance quality and strengthen Ireland's reputation for premium food production."
