Industry NewsSisk wins contract to build Ireland's National Cricket Centre at Abbotstown
Irish contractor Sisk has secured the first construction contract for Ireland's long-awaited National Cricket Centre, a €35m development at the Sport Ireland Campus in Abbotstown, Dublin 15, which will serve as the permanent home of international cricket in Ireland. The appointment marks a significant construction milestone ahead of Ireland's co-hosting of the 2030 ICC Men's T20 World Cup with England and Scotland.
The Irish Independent reported that the contract was awarded through a public procurement process, with parts of the project required to be completed by September 2026 to allow the cricket oval's central strip sufficient time to grass-establish ahead of the World Cup.
Contract One covers civil works including the cricket oval, wicket, a 4,240-seat permanent spectator bowl, bulk earthworks, boreholes and an irrigation system, along with ancillary buildings comprising an energy centre, maintenance building and two toilet blocks, and landscaping across the approximately 30-hectare site.
Planning permission was granted by Fingal County Council in November 2025, following a planning application submitted by Sport Ireland. The project is being delivered in two phases, with the initial phase focused on the field of play and core infrastructure. A second contract covering the high performance centre and a players and match officials building has yet to be awarded.
Economic analysis carried out by EY estimated that the National Cricket Centre would support 460 jobs per annum between 2026 and 2030, with the 2030 T20 World Cup alone expected to generate a €93m tourism dividend and €29m in additional ticket sales and operational expenditure over the same period.
A capacity of up to 20,000 spectators will be required for the 2030 World Cup, with the permanent 4,240-seat bowl designed to accommodate future expansion through temporary seating provision.
